In 1944, the Japanese launched the “Operation Plan No. 1” in Henan, and the Kuomintang troops scattered all along the Henan territory, leading to the fall of Henan. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to open a new base in Henan, and sent the Lunan Independent Brigade of the Eighth Route Army to carry out harassment attacks. Brigade Commander Chen Tianfang and Deputy Brigade Commander Lu Lan were in charge of strategic movements, while Lu Chong commanded the Shanglang Assault Team and the 3rd Battalion of the 3rd Regiment to provide support. During the mission, the Soryu commandos infiltrated the important Japanese city of Shinan to destroy the weapons depot. At the same time, Chen Tianfang planned to assassinate the Japanese spy Gao Guiwu. Ultimately, through coordinated operations with the main force, the Soryu commandos and the 3rd Battalion defeated the Japanese and achieved their strategic goals.
